MOUNT VERNON — Several businesses have opened recently in the Knox County area.

Opened on Feb. 4 inside Nicole Jordan’s Children’s Boutique, 506 N. Main St., is The Clothes Closet. A non-profit organization operated by Linda Aikman, The Clothes Closet offers a wide selection of work attire, from board room to nursing to janitorial and retail, at budget prices with most being less than $5.

Aikman established Hope Now in 2003 which collects furniture and household items to redistribute to those who have that need. She then decided to establish The Clothes Closet to provide clothing needs for all family members. “The economic situation in Knox County is frightening. I see the struggle. And since everything is donated to us, we make it available at really reasonable prices,” said Aikman.

A thrift shop has also been opened in the same location offering a variety of items which are being donated by organizations like Soroptimist International, churches and even individuals. Treasures which can be found include clothes, shoes, purses, furniture, jewelry, dishes, etc.

Hours for The Clothes Closet are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Volunteers are always sought to serve as staff personnel. Anyone wishing to make donations or need more information can call Aikman at (740) 848-4057.
