MOUNT VERNON — A deteriorating bridge in an isolated part of Jackson Township, a slip in the levee along Dry Creek and the sheriff’s monthly report took up the Knox County Commissioners’ afternoon Thursday.

The bridge is a one-lane span over Wakatomika Creek on Warren Road near the intersection with Creek Road. It is one of two routes available to Creek Road resident Dick Gorney to reach a county road and get to the nearest communities.

Gorney has been trying to get the county to repair or replace the bridge for several years, but the county has been unable to do so. Assistant County Engineer Larry Bechtel said they could have received a Public Works grant to fix the bridge a couple years ago, but the bids came in too far above the cost estimates.
