MOUNT VERNON — Legislation authorizing a bond issue to finance the construction of a service building for the Street, Water and Wastewater departments may be delayed Monday, Mayor Richard Mavis reported.
The ordinance is on Monday’s council agenda for a second reading, but Mavis said City Auditor Terry Scott is still working with the firm that handles the city’s bond issues to determine whether a revenue bond or a general obligation bond will provide the best deal for the city. Therefore, Scott will ask council to table the issue until the details can be worked out.
Monday will be the final meeting for Council Clerk Jan Brown, who also serves as an administrative assistant to the mayor. Brown is retiring at the end of the month after 19 years in the position.
“Mrs. Brown has been a terrific clerk and administrative assistant,” Mavis said. “She’s been here the entire 16 years I’ve been mayor. She was a great help in steering me and (former Service-Safety Director) Joel Daniel in the right direction.”
