MOUNT VERNON — Two boys who had run away from the Knox County Children’s Resource Center almost a week before, were picked up by Newark Police on Monday and have been returned to the center.
Deborah Jenkins, director of Marketing and Communications for The Village Network, which operates the Children’s Resource Center, said the youths had walked off campus and were reported missing Monday, March 19.
“They’re now back at the Mount Vernon facility, continuing their treatment,” she said.
“These things do happen. We’re not a lock-down facility. It is staff-secured, with no fence or gate,” she explained.
She had no knowledge of why the youths had gone to Newark.
The Village Network program accepts cases from all over the state and from other states. It has 14 facilities around Ohio and youths are placed at facilities based on what programs are offered.
