MOUNT VERNON — This is Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week and there will be a statewide tornado drill Wednesday at 9:50 a.m.
Most of the schools in the area will be participating in the drill, as will some care facilities such as Country Court Nursing Center.
“We regularly do drills so we know exactly what we are doing,” said administrator Bob Jones. “We try to be calm and efficient, and explain to the residents what’s going on: ‘We’re going over here now; we’re going to do this and we’re going to do that.’ The residents are very resilient, they’ve all experienced storms and they take it in stride.”
Like most care facilities, Knox Community Hospital, said risk coordinator/safety officer Mary Day, holds drills and training with staff on a regular basis, with the goal of being prepared as possible without disrupting patient care.
