MOUNT VERNON — Work has begun on various Beckley Road projects which will have portions of the road closed for intermittent periods over the coming weeks. The projects are Ohio Public Works Commission grant projects and are being coordinated with the Morris Township Trustees and the Knox County Engineer’s Office.
Millwork began Monday at the intersection of Old Mansfield and Beckley roads where the asphalt will be milled down before the intersection is leveled off to give drivers a better view while stopped at the intersection. Beckley Road to the west will be ground to prepare the surface for new asphalt. Traffic is currently being diverted onto Eldon Drive. This section of Beckley Road is expected to be closed for two to three weeks.
Small’s Asphalt Paving is performing the current millwork.
Further west on Beckley Road will be projects of replacing culverts near Crooked Street and working on bridge improvements, according to Morris Township Trustee Dan Humphrey. New asphalt will also be laid on Beckley Road from Old Mansfield Road past Ohio 13 and west to Bryant Road. Traffic will be limited to one lane in those areas while the paving takes place. All projects are expected to be completed by July 15, said Humphrey.
