MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Fire Department Chief Chris Menapace had a walk-through of the structure at 2 Pittsburgh Avenue with a representative of the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office on Thursday.
The fire, Wednesday afternoon, caused extensive damage to Always Summer Tanning Salon and Service Welding. The building is owned by Kenneth Daughriety.
“[Fire marshal] assisted us with our investigation. We had our ideas of what we thought was going on, so we wanted to bounce it off the state fire marshal’s office,” Menapace told the News. “Right now [the cause of the fire] is officially under investigation. We are currently working with the insurance company of the owner to do some further investigations into certain components of the property. Once that’s all completed, we will be able to come up with our final cause of origin.”
