MOUNT VERNON — A Cardington man is in the Knox County Jail after being apprehended stealing scrap metal Friday afternoon.
According to Knox County Sheriff David Barber, deputies responded to an alarm at a Green Valley Road residence at approximately 1:30 p.m. When Deputy Tim Light arrived at the location, he discovered a vehicle behind the barn with its trunk open. The storage compartment was filled with scrap metal.
Barber said Light located Jason A. Wolford, 31, on the property and placed him under arrest.
Wolford was charged with theft and criminal trespassing. He was transported to the Knox County Jail. Light was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Allen Dexter.
Barber commended Light for a job well done and said he hopes Wolford’s arrest will make a dent in the on-going scrap thefts in Knox and surrounding counties.
