MOUNT VERNON — Tuesday was a sunny spring day, conducive to a hard day of work in the fields for area farmers. There may be storm clouds on the horizon, however, as Congress moves toward replacing the 2008 Food, Conservation and Energy Act, commonly called the Farm Act, that will expire Sept. 30.
About 20 farmers gathered Tuesday morning at the Southside Diner for a regular breakfast meeting sponsored by the Knox County Farm Service Agency. The featured speaker was State FSA Executive Director Steve Maurer.
Maurer addressed the status of the 2012 Farm Bill in his comments, but said it’s too early to report anything conclusively.
