MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Terrorism Advisory team voted Thursday afternoon to authorize Emergency Management Agency interim Director Rick Dzik to prepare a new plan for the use of 2010 grant money and file with the state. The state needs to have an approved plan from the county before the county can use the money.
Dzik said former EMA Director Brian Hess had filed a plan, but the state rejected it and recommended a new plan be prepared.
“We need a plan in place to move forward,” Dzik said.
He said the plan doesn’t have to be detailed and it can be changed later when a new EMA director is in place. Also, some of the 2010 grant money was earmarked to complete the tornado siren upgrades begun with 2009 money.
Also needing money from the 2010 grant is the completion of the interoperable communications project. That, Dzik said, allows easier communications with outside agencies.
