MOUNT VERNON — Despite some slight delays, work is progressing on the Knox County wastewater upgrade projects, as reported Thursday morning by county water/wastewater superintendent Ray Withers in his monthly update meeting with the Knox County Commissioners. Withers shared photos and informed the commissioners of the current progress at each location of the wastewater projects.
The tap-in process at Millwood is nearly complete. Restoration at residences and on the roads is yet to be finished but is set to begin the week of April 30. The lone remaining resident yet to be hooked up is Chuck Jarvis, who has been seeking a different boring process in order to salvage landscaping efforts on his property. Board of commissioners president Allen Stockberger said that Jarvis has received a quote for the procedure which is nearly double the price of the routine procedure. Measures to have Jarvis complete this tap-in are being pursued by the Knox County Health Department.
The wastewater plant at Bladensburg is now in service with 58 of 85 taps hooked up. “They are doing restoration as they do the tap, and the system should be completed shortly thereafter” said Withers. The restoration involves a crew coming in after the tap is complete to compact the soil, perform any necessary grade work and put in grass seed and straw. Withers stated he will report when all customers are connected.
