A steady stream of cars and trucks filed through the Mount Vernon News’ biannual Recycling Day on Saturday. Over 370 Knox County residents recycled newspapers and magazines as part of the News’ efforts to be good stewards of the environment and to encourage residential recycling. In just four hours, two large Dumpsters were filled with materials that will be recycled into other products such as newsprint, cereal boxes, egg cartons, pencils and many other options. A car collided with a minivan at the intersection of North Main and Burgess streets today about 8:30 a.m. At least two people were transported to Knox Community Hospital. The car, a Chevrolet Impala, was traveling north on Main when it struck the Ford Aerostar minivan crossing from the west on Burgess. No other information was available at press time. Nearly 100 friends and family members came out to The Station Break to wish a happy 90th birthday to Ruth Jockisch on Saturday. “It’s absolutely wonderful. I’m very well pleased,” said Jockisch of her birthday party. She said her secret to living a long, healthy life is “Just enjoy living.” Celebrating his 91st birthday today is her brother, Bob Beach.
