MOUNT VERNON — With spring now in full swing, new businesses continue to spring up around Knox County.

Spring can be a good time to get your car “spiffed up,” and a new place in Mount Vernon to get this done is at Rick’s Auto Detailing at 410 Fairgrounds Road.

Rick Flack grew up in the Mount Vernon area and had previously worked in the auto detailing business before taking a hospital job. Wanting to get back into the business, he recently opened up his own auto detailing shop on April 2. Package options are available for those wanting to clean just the outside or inside of their car. Complete bumper-to-bumper service is also available for those wanting a thorough detailing. Commercial vehicles, RVs, buses and trucks are exempt from service. “Anything else on four wheels, we will do ... plus motorcycles,” said Flack.

Pickup and drop-off service is available for those who have the need.

Flack can be reached at 326-6089 or 501-6954 (cell). Hours of operation for Rick’s Auto Detailing are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend hours may be added at a later date.

Pet pampering at its best can now be found at Maura’s K9 Massage and Grooming, 12029 Woodview Lane, Fredericktown. Whether you want to treat your dog to a massage, have him treated for skunk odor, provide a good grooming or just get his teeth brushed, Maura’s can handle it.

Opened on March 12, Maura’s K9 Massage and Grooming offers various services which can alleviate a pet’s pain and soreness, relax any hyper behavior, manipulate muscles to strengthen the body, increase and maintain flexibility or just plain give them some tender loving care. Grooming services are also available for cats.

Maura’s K9 Massage and Grooming is owned and operated by Laura Gharavell. Her husband, Matt, is also involved in the business. They are open Monday through Saturday by appointment. Call 627-1072 for an appointment.

New ownership is now in place at Kahrl and Company Insurance, 11 S. Mulberry St. Recently taking ownership of the 105-year-old business on March 7 are Joshua Kirby and Nathan Paff of Mount Vernon.

Kirby had previously owned another agency in the area and has been in the insurance business for 11 years. Paff has been a mortgage broker in the Mount Vernon area and will now offer his services through the office of Kahrl and Company. Previous owners Rick Shaw and Sam Laudeman remain on staff as do all other staff members.

Kahrl and Company Insurance offers policies for auto, homeowners, flood, life, health and business insurance. Investment planning is now available through Kirby who is a registered investment advisor.

“We’re trying to be a more well-rounded boutique-type insurance agency where we’re able to hit all the lines,” said Kirby. “We can be your one-stop shop for all your insurance needs.”

Kahrl and Company is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Limited staff is available on Thursdays. They can be reached at 397-1066.
