MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Career Center’s superintendent, Bernie Pachmayer, has provided an email update regarding the status of the engineering drafting program.

She said the program will remain open for the seniors who are already in the program (this year’s juniors).

Instructor Steve Jefferson will teach the seniors so they earn their completion certificates. Pachmayer said Jefferson will be employed full-time next year. In addition to teaching the engineering drafting seniors, he will also:

•Teach blue printing to those labs that request this assistance.

•Meet with feeder schools to determine the needs of students for what the future looks like for the program.

•Participate in professional activities in adjusting the program to the current needs of the work force.

With regard to the latter, Pachmayer said, “We do not know what this looks like yet. Several things will be determined next year, including a possible name change.”

“This was the October proposal to Mr. Jefferson which hasn’t changed,” said Pachmayer. “All the details are being discussed with Mr. Jefferson to what next year will look like.”

Pachmayer announced in the fall of 2011 the engineering drafting program would end because of low enrollment. The career center board voted to approve the continuation of the program so that currently enrolled students would have the opportunity to earn their certificiates.
