MOUNT VERNON — Talks are in the process for proposed expansion of the Children’s Resource Center at The Village Network. This was the report Monday morning when Knox County Jobs and Family Services Director Matthew Kurtz gave his weekly report to the Knox County Board of Commissioners.
“The facility they have doesn’t have space for some of the additional therapies they want to do. They may want to put in a greenhouse, a gymnasium and the like,” Kurtz told the commissioners.
Kurtz has been in talks with Dave Paxton, chief strategy officer at The Village Network on the programs they are considering. “It’s all so early in the process. We’re not sure exactly what all we want to do,” said Kurtz.
In addressing the services offered at the Children’s Resource Center, “Certainly there are needs to take care of our youth that are not able to be cared for by their biological parents,” said Commissioner Allen Stockberger. Kurtz explained that there has been talk about the CRC becoming a “Community family center where we can focus a lot of treatment, therapy and training to help families. We’re trying to think of innovative ways to be preventive to stem the tide before the kids end up in care so that we can strengthen families. That’s kind of the big picture of it,” said Kurtz. “How this all flushes out in the details will be interesting to see. This center could be a place where we can address many challenges.”
