MOUNT VERNON — No injuries were reported in a truck-deer collision which occurred at 5:16 a.m. Monday on Ohio 229 near Cochran Road.

David Jenkins, 25, of Columbus, was traveling eastbound when a deer ran into the road, striking the front right side of Jenkins’ Nissan truck. The deer was caught in the truck’s axle and was dragged 162 feet as Jenkins went off the left side of the road, striking a power pole and coming to rest in a ditch.

The truck sustained heavy damage to the front passenger side and was towed to Howard Street Garage. Air bags did not deploy, and Jenkins was reported to be wearing a seat belt. Knox County Sheriff’s officer Kevin Durbin responded to the scene of the crash.
