MOUNT VERNON — The installation of a new eight-inch water line along a portion of Coshocton Avenue is nearing completion.
Mayor Richard Mavis said he has been informed that crews will begin making the individual service connections of 19 homes to the new line Monday. The line will also be connected to a dead-end line that comes down Hilltop Drive.
Construction should be completed by the end of the week. The line will then be sanitized and tested.
Canyon Construction has the contract for the project.
Meanwhile, Park Enterprise Construction continues work on the storm sewer on the south side of Coshocton Avenue from Eastwood Avenue to O’Reilly’s. Next week, Eastwood will be closed for a few days, although there will be access to the laundromat and car wash.
Paving of the sidewalk extension along Mount Vernon Avenue from Division Street to Newark Road is expected to be completed in the coming days.
Mavis and City Engineer Cameron Keaton met with representatives of the Ohio Department of Transportation, Rolls-Royce and Pre-Stress Inc. about the intersections at Chestnut and Sandusky and West High and Sandusky streets.
The meeting was a follow-up to an earlier meeting, Mavis said, and the state appears to be considering the intersection improvements as a “job saving” project. That bodes well for the future of the project.
