MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Educational Service Center consultants Linda Spurgeon and Jan Taylor are retiring after spending decades in the educational field.

Spurgeon began teaching in 1972 and joined the ESC staff in 1988. Taylor starting working with the Mount Vernon City Schools in 1970 and joined the ESC in 2004.

Taylor said she will miss working with all the teachers and principals. “I have really developed a relationship with all of them. It’s a hard thing to leave,” she said.

Spurgeon agreed. “I think our main purpose is to support teachers and principals and we just love what we do,” she said. “I think they have appreciated the extra help sometimes.”

The pair will be honored by an Open House on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the seminar room of the Knox County Career Center adult education facility, 308 Martinsburg Rd. They will be recognized for their many years of service to the schools in Knox County.
