The Mount Vernon area was being put into pictures, literally, on Friday. Found zipping around town Friday afternoon was this unique-looking Google Maps vehicle which takes pictures of the landscape as it makes its tour around its selected area. The driver declined to speak to the News about his mission. Google Maps is a web mapping service application that powers many map-based services including the Google Maps website. Visitors to the website can identify a specific location by address and see recent photos of that location. (Photo by Alan Reed)
Madeline Henricksen explains her project on St. Paul’s Episcopal Church to Mr. Otting, literacy coordinator at East Elementary. Third-grade students were asked to select a topic of local interest and create a research project. Presentations were presented on Friday and included topics such as Dan Emmett, Mount Vernon local government, hospitals, schools, Henry Curtis, native animals, Mount Vernon Fire Department and others. Parents, students, teachers and friends then had the opportunity Friday to come and see the displays by the young scholars. (Photo by Alan Reed)
