CENTERBURG — They say that the older you get the faster the years go by, so it was fitting that the Centerburg High School Class of 2012 selected Kenny Chesney’s “Don’t Blink” as their class song. The 126th graduating class in the school’s long history gathered for one last time Saturday afternoon as commencement ceremonies were held in the gymnasium.
After several musical selections, including the Alma Mater performed by senior members of the school choir, class President Jacob Teale welcomed the hundreds of friends, relatives, faculty members and school administrators gathered for the occasion.
“Over the past four years I’ve gotten to know each and every one in this class, and it’s a wonderful group,” Teale said. “We can’t thank our families enough for all of their support.”
Eight members of the class were recognized as salutatorians, and each delivered brief comments after being introduced by class Secretary Jessica Pitzer. Dylan Jones reminded his classmates that “Life is all about choices, and I hope you will all make good ones.”
In a similar vein, Alex Losego said that “Whether we go forward from here and do our very best, or just do what is necessary, is left up for us to decide.” The other salutatorians were Elaina Gundy, Logan McGovern, Matthew Pozderac, Tyler Smith, Bryce Trumble and class treasurer Caleb White.
