MOUNT VERNON — Demolition and repairs of homes or structures in the city of Mount Vernon are moving forward, members of the Dilapidated Buildings Commission were told Tuesday.

City Code Enforcement Officer Larry Fogle reviewed recent updates to structures since the commission last met in March. Houses have been demolished at 103 Howard St. and 104 Roundhouse Lane. Garages were demolished at 100 Madison St. and 206 Oak St. Fogle also reported repairs were completed to houses at 401 E. Ohio Ave., 707 E. High St., 46 Sychar Road and 54 Sychar Road.

“We’ve had some real success stories in the last two months,” said Fogle.

One garage that is pending for demolition is at 203 N. Division St. With the property owner experiencing health issues, the son has taken over to remove the contents of the garage by July 6. The city is to proceed with demolition after this date.

Repairs were ordered in April to be completed on the home at 704 Coshocton Ave. The owner apparently has not made necessary repairs, and this matter was turned over to City Law Director Bill Smith.
