MOUNT VERNON — Plans are on track for The Station Break Senior Center to move into the Dan Emmett Conference Center at 150 Howard St., sometime in July. This was the recent report from executive director Kelly Lybarger-DeWitt who has been busy coordinating the move from the former Pennsylvania Railroad Depot at 501 S. Main St.
“Everything seems to be going fairly smooth,” said Lybarger-DeWitt. Ownership will transfer from Mark Ramser to the City of Mount Vernon in July. The Station Break will continue to have an operations contract with the city, and business as usual will continue for those who have already made plans at the facility this year. “We will honor the contracts that have been set through The Alcove at the conference center through January,” she said.
Once The Station Break makes its move, it will be occupying the entire conference center. While the current facility does have a basement level, total square footage will increase from 8,000 to 11,000 feet, but workable space should be a big improvement. “I think it will be a lot more convenient for the seniors to all be on one floor,” said Lybarger-DeWitt. The use of larger office and kitchen space is expected to be a major improvement.
