HOWARD — Two area teens were flown by MedFlight to Columbus hospitals following a one-car accident around 2 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 36 near Monroe Mills Road. A report from family members states that Kiara Black, 18, of Mount Vernon, drove off the road and into a ditch after losing control when the brakes on her Dodge Neon gave out. Black was taken to Grant Medical Center where she was treated and released around 9 p.m. She is home and is reportedly doing well.
One passenger, Damian Thomen, 18, of Centerburg, was flown to OSU Medical Center where he was kept overnight. Family members reported this morning that Thomen was up and walking, but doctors are keeping him one more day for further tests.
Two additional passengers in the car received no serious injuries. No further information was available.
