MOUNT VERNON — Construction projects around the city of Mount Vernon were the main topics of discussion when Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis met with the News on Friday for his weekly report.
Sitting in briefly with Mavis was Mount Vernon City Engineer Cameron Keaton, who announced that the next phase of construction along Coshocton Avenue will be a curb and gutter project which will start at Vernonview Drive and stretch from Coshocton Avenue north to Plaza Drive. The project should take one week to complete, and traffic will be limited to two lanes only. There will be no dedicated turn lane for southbound traffic turning left onto Coshocton Avenue from Vernonview Drive during this period.
The Coshocton Avenue entrance into the Big Lots plaza near Bullock’s Drive-Thru will be changed to a right in/right out only. This entrance will be closed during this week of construction. Additional right in/right out changes will take place in the coming weeks at other locations along Coshocton Avenue. Also, the entrance into Kroger from Coshocton Avenue just east of Vernedale Drive will be permanently closed.
Keaton also wants area residents to know that there will be a slight change in the traffic signal timing on Coshocton Avenue. Drivers should be aware and pay attention to the change in these patterns.
