MOUNT VERNON — A two-vehicle crash this morning at the intersection of North Mulberry and West Chestnut streets resulted in heavy damage to the vehicles, both of which had to be towed from the scene.
Traffic was rerouted around the accident, which occured around 7:30 this morning.
Capt. George Hartz of the Mount Vernon city Police Department said both vehicles were southbound on Mulberry Street. The Knox Area Transit minibus, driven by Donna Sterling, 53, was in the right-hand lane and the pickup driven by 17-year-old Bailey Shipley was in the left-hand lane.
Sterling, Hartz said, from the right hand lane, attempted to turn east on Chestnut Street, moving in front of Shipley’s vehicle.
The accident report lists minor, non-visible injuries. Hartz said Shipley’s mother was going to take her to a medical professional to be checked out to make sure she wasn’t hurt.
Sterling was cited for improper turn.
