FREDERICKTOWN — James Hobson, an employee of First-Knox National Bank, will be the new member of Fredericktown Village Council, filling the seat of the late Paul Seymour, who died May 26.

Hobson, 41, was selected from a field of five applicants for the post. The council accepted applications to fill the post through Friday, then went into executive session at Monday’s regular meeting to review the applications. After about an hour, council emerged to vote on their selection.

Mayor Alan Kintner said several candidates had strong points in their favor, but described Hobson as having the broadest qualifications.

Hobson, who has been a resident of Fredericktown for seven years, will take the oath of office at the July 2 council meeting.

Hobson told the News Monday night he applied for the seat because it was “a good opportunity to become more directly involved in Fredericktown.”

“I’m looking forward to working with Mayor Kintner and the other council members,” he said. “It’s a team effort and I’m going to have to catch up with the others.”

Hobson is a commercial lender for First-Knox. He and his wife, Renee, have two children, Nathan and Anna.

In other business, council gave final approval to an ordinance correcting the speed limits on Mount Vernon Avenue, Columbus Road and Waterford Road. The limits on sections where the corporation line runs down the middle of the streets are being adjusted in coordination with the county so that speed limits are the same on both sides of each road. The limits on the affected areas of Mount Vernon Avenue and Waterford Road will be 35 miles per hour and the limit on Columbus Road will be 25.
