David Pavliga of Atwater, Ohio, put an estimated 5,000 hours into his 14-year restoration project of this WACO Model 9, the only remaining airworthy example of the 1925 biplane. Firefighters with the Mount Vernon Fire Department were called to Colonial Hills Apartments around 3 p.m. Thursday for a small brush fire. They arrived to find a pile of railroad ties, plus tree limbs and leaves burning at the east end of the apartment complex on the hill behind the Urgent Care Center and had the blaze extinguished in a matter of a few minutes. No injuries were reported. Cause of the blaze has yet to be determined. Shown spraying down the burning ties with a fire hose is MVFD firefighter Nick Cockrell. (Photo by Alan Reed)
