GAMBIER — Kenyon College is widely known as a top-ranked liberal arts college; and U.S. News described the college as having “exceptionally strong programs in English, the sciences, and drama.” With the construction of a new 41,000-square-foot art studio near the recently added Gund Gallery, that description may very well include fine arts as one of the most sought-after programs in the curriculum.
The art studio will be named Horvitz Hall in honor of David Horvitz. Horvitz of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is an emeritus trustee of Kenyon College and a 1974 graduate. He and his wife, the artist Francie Bishop Good, are collectors and generous supporters of the arts. They donated $11 million for the new studio art building. An attorney and highly regarded investment professional, Horvitz has been a Kenyon trustee since 1988.
The entire project will cost $21 million with a total construction cost of $17,278,723. Nine other major donors collectively provided approximately $2.4 million. Also, the We Are Kenyon Drive for Excellence campaign was raised, in part, for facility improvements.
