MOUNT VERNON — Today’s temperatures could feel like it’s well over 100 degrees. While we might be hiding out in air-conditioned homes, shopping centers or offices, some pets around the area might not be so lucky.
The Knox County Animal Shelter takes 20 to 30 calls a day for a variety of reasons, including pets left in cars, abandoned or neglected. Dog Warden Jim St. Clair said that when the shelter receives a call that a dog is tied up, for example, he will try to contact the owner and he will make sure the animal has water, food and shelter.
“The laws for providing shelter is pretty broad,” St. Clair said. “It can even be just the side of the house.”
