MOUNT VERNON — Despite Friday’s storm that left most of Knox County in the dark, city residents remained with the luxury of running water. That water, according to city officials, was — and remains — safe to drink.
“To my knowledge we had no line breaks and no pressure loss,” stated Judy Scott, administrator of treatment and distribution at Mount Vernon. Those two conditions could provide an opportunity for city water contamination, but neither condition exists.
The water plant, as well as the city well, have back-up generators that take over immediately when there is a loss of power.
