MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Chapter of the American Red Cross continues to work to provide relief to area residents who are without electrical power and/or water, as well as those who are trying to cope with intense heat expected to last throughout the weekend.
Executive director Kelly Brenneman told the News this morning a cooling station will be in operation at the Red Cross training facility, 300 N. Mulberry St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday, and possibly through the weekend should the need arise.
In addition to cold beverages and snacks, Brenneman said, since electricity is available, people will also be able to charge their cell phones and equipment such as laptop computers.
