MOUNT VERNON — Electric customers with American Electric Power and The Energy Co-Op continue to have their power restored from the recent summer thunderstorms that caused widespread outages across the state.
Around 2,000 customers of The Energy Co-Op lost service briefly Thursday afternoon when substations at Brandon and Martinsburg lost transmission service from AEP. Service was restored in about 15 minutes at 5:15 p.m., according to news media representative Carmen Prati-Miller who reported the outage occurred due to transmission work. AEP is reporting there are still 36,000 customers without power in the Newark district with 5,300 of them being in the Mount Vernon/Knox County area. A 90 percent restoration is expected by midnight Sunday, July 8.
The Energy Co-Op is approaching full restoration of its customers. As of 9 a.m. this morning, a total of three customers were without service in Mount Vernon, four in Martinsburg, two in Jelloway, one in Bladensburg, one in Brandon and three in Apple Valley.
