MOUNT VERNON — Deeply rooted in the Henry B. Curtis-era of Mount Vernon history, the building at 100 N. Main St., is undergoing extensive renovation in an attempt to revive its active days of years gone by. The building, at one time, was part of a downtown historic district registry.
The restoration is an attempt to save the building’s historic value and add more economic value to downtown Mount Vernon.
Owner Susan Ramser plans to return the building, which has served as apartments, a bank, a law office and other purposes, into a two-story facility with three office spaces on the ground floor and two apartments on the upper floor.
While work has moved along in the last few months, some of the construction is on hold for the moment.
“Right now we’re waiting on electrical drawings and permits,” said Ramser. “This will be a whole different option for downtown. It will be kind of a test space. It’s going to be a downtown environment where you may not have the two-car garage or other amenities.”
Overseeing the renovations is Ryan Snyder, owner of S&S Construction. “We’ve gutted a lot out, but we’re trying to use as much of the original features as we can so we can keep it historically correct,” said Snyder.
