UTICA — A 9-year-old Utica boy has died following a two-car accident at 1:55 p.m. Monday on Ohio 13 just south of Utica. News reports state that Addison Craft was killed after being thrown from the vehicle driven by Andrew Gayheart, 20, of Utica.
Gayheart was reportedly traveling southbound on Ohio 13 when his car veered off the right side of the road, overcorrected, struck a northbound vehicle and went off the left side and into a cornfield. Another passenger injured in the accident was Craft’s half sister, Kaydence Harstine, 6, who was taken by helicopter to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Neither child was said to be wearing safety restraints.
The second vehicle was a Licking County Transit Services van, driven by Brenda Hoadley of Newark. Both drivers were taken to Licking Memorial Hospital where Gayheart has since been released.
Liz Gayheart, mother of Andrew, told the News that Andrew was engaged to the children’s mother and had long been considered their stepfather.
Responding to the scene was the Ohio State Highway Patrol. No further details were available at press time.
