The Centerburg high school teacher and Mount Vernon resident needs 5,000 petition signatures to have his name on the Ohio ballot but is hoping for 6,000 in case any of them are invalid.

“August 8 is the deadline if I want to get my name of the ballot,” said Vargo. August 22 is the deadline for the paperwork to qualify as a write-in candidate. He is trying to acquire approximately 150 signatures a day to reach his goal.
