John who? Olivia who?
Forget Travolta and Newton-John. Ashleigh and Nick Zarley light up the stage as Mount Vernon’s hottest couple in MTVarts production of “Grease.”
Last year I saw my first Broadway play and I loved it. I laughed, I got sucked into the story and I was dazzled by the music, the dancing and the singing.
Wednesday night, during a dress rehearsal of “Grease,” I felt just the same way — only I was much more reserved sitting all alone front and center.
Honestly, I was thoroughly impressed with the entire production. From the sets and lighting to the singing and dancing, this truly is high quality, top notch production — far above what most theater lovers would expect from community theater, especially a community musical.
Producers, Janis Stone and Scott Swingle, along with director Bruce Jacklin, spent extra money to add songs from the movie to the play because they are so popular. The money spent — well worth it. Adding fan favorites like “Grease,” “You’re the One I Want,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “Sandy” to the mix might remove it somewhat from the Broadway production, but for those of us who know the love story from the movie screen, it pulls it all together.
