MOUNT VERNON — The city is now the official owner of what was the Dan Emmett Conference Center and is now The Station Break Senior Citizen Center.
Mayor Richard Mavis, who also serves as chairman of the Senior Center board, said the closing was held this week. However, the planned opening of the new center on Monday has been delayed.
“There was a snag in the installation of the fire suppression system,” he said. “It needs a dedicated phone line and there was a delay getting it in.
“Work should be finished in the first part of the week, but we still need a final inspection from the state, which we hope will happen by the end of the week.”
Mavis said that although the center will not offer hot meals until after the inspection is done, it will continue to offer frozen meals for people who want them delivered.
Also Monday, the center will resume its transportation program.
The regular phone numbers for the center will remain the same — 397-3841 and 397-2417 — but Mavis said they were not sure when they will be in operation at the new center. If you have a problem contacting the center at one of those numbers, then call 740-358-1630.
Mavis also said inspections revealed a problem with the roof at the center, but the seller, Mark Ramser, had a new roof put on the center.
