MOUNT VERNON — Those who enjoy casual dining in a sports bar atmosphere will soon have a local outlet when Buffalo Wild Wings comes to Mount Vernon.
A lease was signed July 13 between U.S. Properties and franchisee Larry Tipton which will allow Tipton to open a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant at 907 Coshocton Ave., on the west end of the Big Lots plaza next to Curves.
“If everything goes right, we’re hoping for a fall opening sometime in November,” Tipton told the News. Tipton has been a multi-unit franchisee with BWW since 1998, having built 13 restaurants, mainly in Ohio. He currently operates BWW franchises in Lancaster, Athens, Heath, Reynoldsburg and Canal Winchester.
Although BWW began as a stand-alone restaurant, many locations since its beginning in 1981 in Columbus have been built as in-line or end-cap, located inside or at the end of a plaza or mall. Tipton has opened a few in-line locations, but admitted that this Mount Vernon location would be his first end-cap build.
“Ohio contains 88 Buffalo Wild Wings [locations], and Mount Vernon was one of the only areas in the state that was not served,” said Tipton about his reasons for choosing Mount Vernon for a franchise location. “And the more I looked at it, I thought Mount Vernon was a great town. The demographics are a lot better there than what I thought they might be.”
