MOUNT VERNON — Three judges were challenged Sunday to choose the 2012 Knox County Fair Queen from six hopeful contestants. For king, the decision was a difficult choice between two young men who are active in 4-H and the fair. Choose they must, however, and Carlie Hashman was crowned queen and Gavin Rundell donned the king’s sash. Ashley Burke was named Fair Queen Runner-Up.
Contestants for queen included Burke, Hashman, Heather McElhaney, Sierra Schaaf, Rachael Shaffer and Katie Shoots. Vying for king were Tanner Dailey and Rundell.
According to master of ceremonies and coordinator Bobbi Maleszewski, applications for the title were submitted with an essay about the importance of family. The contestants were then interviewed by the judges and Sunday they gave their speeches to the judges and audience.
