MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Chapter of the Archeological Society of Ohio has an interesting display open to fairgoers this week that highlight Indian artifacts.

The pieces were brought to the fair by members of the Kokosing Chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio. The display includes numerous Native American artifacts, including but not limited to arrowheads, axes, chisels, slate, gouges, hammer stones, pestles and drilling stones.

“They had all of the tools we have,” said Paul Hothem. “Even fish hooks that were made out of bone.”

Hothem also explained that the artifacts are available for public viewing between 3 to 9 p.m., with different pieces being shown throughout the shift.

“Some people come everyday and we don’t want them to see the same things,” Hothem said. He mentioned that while most of the items were flint, there were also stone pieces, and a permant display donated by Glenn Spray that illustrated which eras certain tools were made. The oldest tools in Spray’s case were of the Paleo era, which dated them from 12,000 to 8,000 B.C.
