MOUNT VERNON — Jim Shipley resigned today effective at 4 p.m., from his position as city treasurer.

Shipley came under fire because he moved from his residence in the city to a home on Indian Hills Road in 2010. According to the Ohio Revised Code, Shipley was required to live within the district where he was elected while he maintained the office.

He announced earlier this month at a Knox County Democratic Party meeting that he planned to resign on Sept. 7, after taking three weeks of vacation and then allowing for time to train his potential replacement.

Current party treasurer Anton “Bud” Krutsch was appointed this afternoon by Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis to fill the position until the party can select a replacement.
