MOUNT VERNON — Some area residents experienced an unpleasant sense of déjà vu when rains and winds swept through the county Thursday evening and electrical power was disrupted due to storm damage.
County work crews hit the roads a little before 5 p.m. Thursday, said county bridge supervisor Jeff Durbin. “We kind of lucked out on this one,” he added. He said the downed limbs and things were concentrated in the southeast part of the county, hitting the Bladensburg area the hardest: There were seven or eight down on Earlywine Road; Jug Run and Sycamore roads each had a couple of problem areas. Durbin said there was scattered damage in the Danville, North Liberty and Centerburg areas, too.
“Things were pretty much cleared out by 8:30 last night,” said Durbin.
Consolidated Electric Cooperative vice president Pam Hawk said a number of households in Hilliar Township lost electric service for a time, but all power was restored in the area by 12:30 this morning.
Approximately 3,500 American Electric Power customers in the Newark District, which includes Knox County, also lost power. Spokeswoman Carmen Prati-Miller said this morning that all service has been restored as of 8:30 this morning, except for one customer in Mount Vernon.
Approximately 1,000 Energy Cooperative customers lost power because of the storm, said media spokeswoman Andrea Cubik. The outages were scattered among all the substations, she said, and, as of this morning, power had been restored to all but 237 households.
