MOUNT VERNON — A salvage crew removing steel from the old PACS plant on Norton Street, beside the old PPG plant, created a small fire in a wall Wednesday.

The Mount Vernon Fire Department said sparks from a cutting torch fell in the wall, starting a small fire. Smoke was seen about 5:50 p.m. and the department was called.

Chief Chris Menapace said firefighters put out the fire.
