MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Board of Commissioners on Monday continued to explore different options related to health care coverage.
Knox County Auditor Jonette Curry said to be affordable, benefits will probably have to be restructured. She and Deputy Auditor Holly Thompson presented the commissioners with two proposed plans that reflect changing everything from the deductible to out-of-pocket maximums. Commissioner Teresa Bemiller said changing everything may not be necessary and the board will work on other scenarios that may better match the specific needs and budget of the county. Bid packages are expected to be available before the end of August.
Job and Family Services Director Matthew Kurtz said the county has gotten some good news as a result of the latest census: Because the population is now over 60,000, his department has received a slight increase in funds from the state. He said it is not a very big increase, and added that at least it is not a decrease.
