  • Members of the Mount Vernon High School basketball team from 1949 through ’52 attended a reunion at The Alcove on Wednesday. It was organized by team head coach Don Swegan, who first got the group together in 1999. The group now gets together every year. In his three years as coach, Swegan led the Yellow Jackets to a 28-30 record, including a victory over then No. 1 ranked Newark.   • The Medical Clinic of the Knox County Health Department held the first monthly downtown immunization clinic Wednesday morning. Eleven-year-old Taylor Combs, had meningitis, chicken pox and Tdap shots that are required when students enter junior high school. At left is her sister, Erin, 8, and their mom, Tammy Combs. Department nurse Jackie Fletcher, right, administered the shots. The clinic will be the second Wednesday of the month between 9:30 a.m. and noon at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Hunter Hall on South Main Street. style=

  • Work started Wednesday morning on replacing an old I-beam bridge, built in 1958, on Glen Road. Knox County Bridge Foreman Leonard Morningstar cut away branches so work could begin. The bridge will be replaced by a concrete box, 48 feet long, 15 feet wide and five feet deep. The McConnell Construction Co. of West Layafette is the contractor. It is expected to be completed in 30 days. style=
