The appointment, by a unanimous vote of committee members elected from Mount Vernon precincts, fills a vacancy that occurred following last month’s resignation of previous treasurer Jim Shipley. Krutsch, a resident of East High Street, has had a long career in financial services and accounting. He served in various auditing and budgetary positions with Cooper Energy Services, including director of financial services and manager of accounting internal control. He also served as deputy director of fiscal administration with the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and he has worked as a contract auditor for the past decade. He holds a B.S. in accounting from Youngstown State University and an M.B.A. from Xavier University.

Krutsch had previously been appointed by Mayor Richard Mavis as interim treasurer for the city until the central committee could meet to vote.

“Bud Krutsch is very well qualified to be Mount Vernon treasurer,” said Adam Gilson, chairman of the Democratic central committee. “His long career speaks for itself, and I know he will be a dedicated public servant for the citizens of our city.”

Krutsch will serve the remainder of Shipley’s unexpired term, which runs through the end of 2013.
