MOUNT VERNON — Investigation has begun on the death of a 4-year-old Mount Vernon youth. The Mount Vernon Police Department was called to a West Vine Street residence shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday on an unresponsive 4-year-old boy. The child was taken by emergency squad to Knox Community Hospital and transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus where he later passed away.

The cause of the child’s death has not been determined. The incident is being investigated by Detective Tom Bumpus, children’s service investigator with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
