MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man, John F. Barton, 57, lost his life in a farm tractor crash Sunday morning. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Barton was driving his Farmall H model tractor when he went left of center on Keys Road and struck a minivan.
The scene is between New Delaware and Pleasant Valley roads west of Mount Vernon. According to the patrol report, Barton was driving south and went left of center on his tractor and collided with the northbound van driven by Jeffrey L. Arnold, 65, Columbus.
After the collision the tractor went out of control and off the right side of the road into an embankment. The tractor rolled over and Barton fell from the seat. He was trapped under the tractor and pronounce dead at the scene.
The van Arnold was driving sustained heavy left front end damage but he was wearing his seatbelt and not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
