MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the death of a 4-year-old boy at 1008 W. Vine St., Mount Vernon.
The child, according to a 9-1-1 call placed by his mother on Sunday evening, had fallen down the stairs on Saturday.
On Sunday evening, he was unresponsive and barely breathing.
“My 4-year-old fell down the steps yesterday and now he’s not breathing,” his mother said.
When prompted by the 9-1-1 dispatcher, his mother said she could feel “very little” breath but could not see his stomach or chest rise.
“He wasn’t like this yesterday. He fell down twice down our steps. He was OK yesterday.”
The mother said he was bruised from where he fell.
