MOUNT VERNON — His first meeting with the Knox County Emergency Management Agency Board was a quiet one for new EMA Director Mark Maxwell. Maxwell began his duties with Knox EMA Aug. 1 and has spent those two weeks meeting local police and fire officials and learning the ropes about his department.

Richard Dzik, who served as interim EMA director in addition to his duties as 9-1-1 director, handled the budget report. That included summaries of what grant budgets have been closed out and which ones are still in use. There were no outstanding bills. The annual budget, he said, is about $99,000.

He said cost-sharing between the agencies for items like office supplies, phone lines and Internet will continue for the time being.
